1: One Earth Solar Farm

Message from South Clifton Parish Council (2)

Following on from our message on 3rd July, where we told you that we had decided to hold talks with One Earth Solar Farm, we now wish to update you on our progress.

To recap, SCPC are still objecting to the proposals as they stand and will be sending feedback by 23rd July, to this effect. However, we felt that, in the event of One Earths plans being given the go-ahead by the government, we needed to try and get them to reduce the size and scale of the development, clear panels in certain areas as well as facilitate clearer, wider rights of way and possible enhancements within our village(s).

The council met with One Earth representatives last week and put forward the following –

  • The removal of panels in fields around specific houses.
  • The need for wider bridleways, footpaths and by-ways with panels 60m from screen hedging/trees
  • Mitigations including tree, hedging and other shrubs/natural flora planting to enhance the above and hopefully, encourage outdoor activity.
  • The joining up of existing and new rights of way to create circular walks/rides.
  • All panels to be 60m from screening along roads
  • An access point/crossing on Wheatholme Lane/Sustrans track junction
  • The removal of One Earth access point on Moor Lane
  • The safety and positioning of BESS storage
  • The inverter and substation positioning and noise levels
  • The creation of a car park/picnic area on Church Lane/Sustrans access
  • Orchards/tree planting to enhance views and aid biodiversity
  • A change in construction hours

Many more points were discussed including the establishment of an annual grant, the effect of house prices, cheaper electricity, the need for a liaison team, use of local workers, research into the long-term effects on health, responsibility for flood-banks, drains and ditches. De-commissioning was touched on but needs further talks.

We will continue to communicate with One Earth throughout this process and they have told us that their new plans will be drawn up by the end of August and shared with us. The council will then continue to consult on this until the plans go into the Planning Inspectorate in Spring 2025.

In the meantime, you are still able to send in your own feedback. You have until 23rd July to send your comments to the company. You do not have to use their feedback form, you can email (info@oneearthsolarfarm.co.uk) or send your feedback by freepost (One Earth Solar Farm, FREEPOST SEC, NEWGATE UK LOCAL)

As we stated in our previous update, we are very aware that there are differing views and attitudes towards the One Earths plans and, as we would like to try and represent everyone, we would like to hear from you.

Please contact us at pcsouthclifton@gmail.com to give us your feedback/questions etc.

Thanks for reading

Message from South Clifton Parish Council (1)

You will be aware that One Earth Solar Farm have now held all their public consultation events, the last one being at the Coronation Hall in South Clifton last Saturday. If you still want to view the plans, you can join a webinar this Wednesday 3rd July (register – oneearthsolarfarm.co.uk) or you can look at their online exhibition at the same web address.

You now have until 23rd July to send your comments to the company. You do not have to use their feedback form, you can email (info@oneearthsolarfarm.co.uk) or send your feedback by freepost (One Earth Solar Farm, FREEPOST SEC, NEWGATE UK LOCAL)

As you know, South Clifton Parish Council voted unanimously to object to this proposal. Our objection still stands, mainly because of the scale and size of the proposed farm. We are not anti-solar and had these plans been less intrusive many of us might have felt differently. But we also realise that because the decision to allow the solar farm or reject it is not made locally, we need to make plans in case the One Earth proposals are accepted by the Government.

Because of this, we feel that we do need to support all residents who will be impacted by this huge change to our area, so we have decided that we will negotiate with the One Earth group to try and change the plans as they stand, clear panels in certain areas as well as facilitate clearer rights of way and possible enhancements within our village(s). We are in the process of finalising our ‘list’ and we are aiming to meet them within the next 7-10 days.

We are aware that there are differing views and attitudes towards the One Earths plans and, as we would like to try and represent everyone, we would like to hear from you.

Please get in touch (pcsouthclifton@gmail.com) if you would like to be involved or have any constructive comments.
